What Happens When a Classroom's Semester Ends?

A classroom archives automatically after its semester ends; students lose access while the professor keeps everything and chooses delete or keep.

What Happens When a Classroom's Semester Ends?

The day after the semester end date you set at creation, the classroom automatically archives. From that point:

  • Students lose access to the classroom workspace entirely — it disappears from their workspace switcher, and they can no longer open surveys, panels, or anything else that lived inside it.
  • The professor keeps full access to everything, indefinitely — the roster, every student's surveys, and the classroom's settings all remain visible.

A student's personal account and personal workspace are completely unaffected — see What Changes When I Join a Classroom?.

Archiving doesn't delete anything. As the professor, you decide separately whether to delete the archived classroom (which permanently removes it and every survey in it) or keep it on record. Both options are in the same Classroom settings panel — see How Do I Manage My Classroom's Settings?.
