Switch from Typeform to Domandata

Typeform's one-question-at-a-time design is great for completion rates, but it's built for lead-gen forms and feedback, not randomized experiments or analysis-ready research exports.

Typeform is built around a conversational, one-question-at-a-time respondent experience — genuinely good UX polish. It's aimed at forms, lead generation, and light feedback collection, though, not survey experiments: there's no built-in concept of a treatment arm, a quota, or an export pipeline aimed at SPSS or Stata.

Why researchers switch from Typeform

What Domandata does specifically to make social science research easier than Typeform.

A real experimental design, not just a pretty form

Treatment arms, quotas, and stratified assignment exist where Typeform has no equivalent concept at all.

Data that leaves the CSV behind

Native SPSS/Stata files and a generated codebook replace a CSV you'd otherwise have to hand-clean before opening it in a stats package.

A free plan that isn't metered by response count

Drafting and previewing instruments is free regardless of volume, instead of a plan priced by monthly responses that scales with your sample size.

Preregistration and replication packages

Instrument fingerprinting, OSF integration, and complete replication packages — nothing comparable exists in Typeform.

Domandata vs. Typeform

FeatureDomandataTypeform
Randomized treatment assignmentRandomized treatment arms with weighted, stratified, or balanced allocation, plus permutation sets that shuffle values across variables without within-respondent repeats — all built in, no scripting. No built-in concept of treatment arms, stratified assignment, or permutation sets; logic jumps are authored per-question.
Quotas & partner status linksPath-aware quotas on treatment arms and Flow endings, with shareable quota-status links so partners can watch fill counts live without editor access. No dedicated quota system; capping responses generally means manually closing the form.
Branching, piping & flow logicVisual flow canvas shows every routing path, condition, and piped variable at a glance.Logic jumps and piped text (recall/hidden fields) are supported, authored question-by-question rather than as a single visual map.
Research-specific question typesConjoint, MaxDiff, card sort, constant sum, text highlighter, click heatmaps, signature, file upload, and AI text/voice chat ship as built-in question types.Question types are aimed at forms and light feedback; conjoint, MaxDiff, card sort, and similar research types aren't available.
AI-simulated pilot testingSilicon Samples pilot-test a survey with AI-simulated respondents — built from personas, panel data, or prior responses — before fielding it with real people. No AI-simulated respondent feature.
Power & sample-size planningBuilt-in power and sample-size planning with a Sankey view of expected allocation, right where the survey is built. No built-in power or sample-size planning tool.
Data-quality toolingAutomated quality scores (speeding, straightlining, duplicate devices, bot signals), author-defined attention/dwell/impossible-combination rules, and a human review queue with an exportable cleaning log.Basic anti-spam protection; no author-defined attention-check or dwell-time rule system.
Export to SPSS/Stata/RNative SPSS (.sav) and Stata (.dta) files, a generated codebook, and randomization audit columns (answer order, treatment assignment, fixed-order comparisons) in every export.CSV/XLS and Google Sheets sync are standard; no native SPSS/Stata export, generated codebook, or randomization audit columns.
Open Science / preregistrationLock and fingerprint a preregistered instrument, push study artifacts to OSF or Harvard Dataverse, and export a complete replication package — data, code, codebook, and instrument bundled together. No OSF/Dataverse integration or instrument fingerprinting.
PricingFree plan for drafting and previewing instruments; paid plans add Flow, Deploy, Export, and team collaboration, with published self-serve pricing.Priced primarily by monthly response volume, which can add up quickly for larger studies.

Migrating from Typeform

Typeform doesn't share a file format with Domandata's importer. Export your form's question list to PDF, then upload it through Domandata's Import dialog — the document parser reads in your questions and answer choices for you to clean up in Block Builder.

Import method: Upload a PDF or Word export
  1. Export your question list as PDF

In Typeform, use the form's summary/print view (or a PDF-print of the editor) to capture your questions and choices.

  2. Upload the document to Domandata

Open Import from your workspace dashboard, choose File, and select the exported PDF. Domandata parses questions and choices into Block Builder.

  3. Review and finish each question

Document parsing is a starting point — check question types, required flags, and any logic jumps that didn't carry over.

  4. Add randomization and quotas in Flow

If your study needs treatment arms or capped cell sizes, build them in Flow — neither concept exists in Typeform to import from.

  5. Preview, then re-point distribution links

Walk the survey in Preview, then update any embed or share links to point at your new Domandata deploy link.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import my Typeform survey automatically?

Typeform doesn't share a file format with Domandata's importer. Export your form's question list to PDF, then upload it through Domandata's Import dialog — the document parser reads in your questions and choices for you to review in Block Builder.

Does my Typeform logic jumps carry over?

No — logic jumps aren't captured by a document import. You'll rebuild any branching in Flow, and add treatment-arm randomization or quotas if your study needs them, since neither exists in Typeform to import from.

What happens to my existing Typeform response data?

Import brings over your questionnaire structure, not historical responses. Export your existing response data from Typeform as CSV and keep it alongside your new Domandata dataset.

Is there a free plan, or am I still paying per response?

Domandata's free plan covers drafting and previewing instruments with no response-volume pricing. Paid plans add Flow, Deploy, and Export when your study needs them.
