Duplicate and Adapt Research Surveys

Duplicate a prior survey when a new wave, classroom study, or related experiment should start from trusted structure.

When To Duplicate A Survey

Duplicating a survey is useful when a research team wants to create a new wave, adapt an existing experiment, revise an instrument for a different population, or move a survey into a team workspace without rebuilding from scratch.

What Duplication Preserves

A duplicated survey can carry over blocks, questions, flow structure, condition sets, variables, quotas, and design settings. Treat the duplicate as a new working copy and review every research-critical detail before publishing.

What To Update In The Copy

  • Identity: update the survey title, public path, and participant-facing introduction.
  • Protocol text: revise consent language, study dates, and contact details.
  • Flow: review experimental condition names, branch rules, quotas, and end screens.
  • Data: confirm variable names, recodes, and codebook notes still match the new study.
  • Theme: adjust the logo, public tab title, and saved theme if the audience changed.
  • Links: use new draft, public, or personal links before distribution.

Use Cases

Duplication works well for semester-to-semester class surveys, multi-wave panels, replication studies, A/B variants, lab templates, and surveys that need a personal copy before being pushed into a team workspace.
