Publish and Share a Research Survey

Prepare a survey for launch, publish the participant-facing version, and choose the right link for review or collection.

Review The Research Survey First

Before publishing an academic research survey, run through the full respondent experience in Preview. Check consent language, screening, question wording, randomization, experimental conditions, quotas, end screens, and export structure.

For survey experiments, preview the default path and every major branch. Confirm that experimental conditions route respondents to the correct blocks and that survey quotas track the right condition arms.

Use The Right Link

Deploy shows links for testing and collection. Use the draft link for collaborators and internal review while you are still editing. Use the public link only after the version is ready for participants.

  • Draft link: use for review, pilot checks, and team feedback while editing.
  • Public link: use for live social science research data collection after publishing.
  • Personal links: use when each participant should receive an individualized invitation or tracking token.

For a fuller guide to draft, public, and personal participant links, see Survey Participant Links.

  6. Step 6: Share the link. Send the public or personal link only after the final test passes.

    Step 6: Share Link

After Responses Start

Monitor response collection and download backups from Export before making major changes. If you edit a live survey, publish again when you want the public link to use the latest version. Avoid changing answer options, condition arms, or quota definitions mid-field unless your research protocol accounts for it. For analysis-ready exports, see Export Research Survey Responses. If you are using paid recruitment, see Panel Recruitment for Surveys and Survey Incentives and Completion Codes.

Embed Your Survey

You can embed a published survey directly into another webpage, such as a blog post, lab website, or participant recruitment platform. Domandata provides a ready-to-use <iframe> HTML snippet on the Deploy tab.

  1. Step 1: Publish first. Make sure you publish the current version of the survey. The embed code is only active for published surveys.

  2. Step 2: Customize dimensions. Enter the desired width (e.g., 100%) and height in pixels (e.g., 600) to fit your page layout.

  3. Step 3: Copy and paste. Click Copy embed code and paste the snippet directly into your webpage's HTML.
