Prolific Integration for Research Surveys

This guide walks you through running your Domandata survey on Prolific. When people finish, they go straight back to Prolific with your completion code, so they get paid without any extra steps.

You'll need:

• A Prolific account and a study you've started setting up
• Your study's completion code

1. Step 1: In Prolific, find your study's completion code. It's under Completion paths in your study. You can copy the whole completion link if that's easier.

2. Step 2: In Domandata, go to the Deploy tab and open Recruitment. Click Prolific.

   • Your completion code. You can paste the whole completion link instead.
   • A screen-out code, if you pay people who don't qualify. People who arrive after their group is full get this code too.
   • A code for failed attention checks, if you use one.

4. Step 4: Click Connect Prolific. Domandata sets everything up so people go back to Prolific when they finish.

5. Step 5: Copy your study link. Click Copy Link next to Share the study link.

6. Step 6: In Prolific, paste the link into your study. Under Study link, choose I'll use URL parameters and paste it.

7. Step 7: In Prolific, add your codes. Add your completion code under Completion paths, plus any other codes you entered in Domandata.

8. Step 8: Tell Domandata who doesn't qualify. Under Send non-qualifiers back, Domandata usually spots your screening question, like "Are you 18 or older?" Click Yes, Route It to use it, or Choose Answers to pick the question yourself. If you've set up attention checks in your quality rules, click Use My Attention Checks too.

9. Step 9: Publish your survey. Click Publish at the top of the Deploy tab. If it's already live, click Push Changes instead.

10. Step 10: Try it yourself. Under Try it yourself, click Open Test Link and take the survey once for each way it can end. Nothing is sent to Prolific. You'll just see where a real participant would go.

11. Step 11: Delete your test runs. Click Delete Before Launch at the top of the Deploy tab.

12. Step 12: In Prolific, preview your study and publish it.

• People who finish go back to Prolific with your completion code.
• People who don't qualify, and people who arrive after their group is full, go back with your screen-out code. If you didn't add one, they're asked to return the study on Prolific.
• People who fail an attention check go back with your attention-check code, or are asked to return the study.

Your exported data shows how each person finished, along with their Prolific ID so you can match them up in Prolific.

Instead of setting the study up in Prolific yourself, you can connect your Prolific account and let Domandata do it. This replaces steps 1, 6, and 7.

1. Step 1: Connect your Prolific account. Open Finish in Prolific. Under Or let Domandata do it, paste a Prolific API token and click Connect. You can make a token in Prolific under API Tokens.
2. Step 2: Click Fill In From My Survey. This fills in the title, how long the survey takes, and often the number of places. Add the payment amount.
3. Step 3: Click Create Draft Study on Prolific. The study is saved as a draft. Nothing is charged until you publish it on Prolific.
4. Step 4: Approve people once responses come in. Click Review Submissions, then approve everyone whose response looks good in one go. Anyone who needs a closer look is listed with the reason. Domandata never rejects anyone for you.

• People see a message telling them to open the study from Prolific. Their link didn't include a Prolific ID. In Prolific, check that I'll use URL parameters is selected and that you pasted the link from step 5.
• People aren't going back to Prolific. Click Push Changes at the top of the Deploy tab, then try the test link again.

You won't need these to get set up, but Prolific support may ask for them.

• Your study link ends in PROLIFIC_PID={{%PROLIFIC_PID%}}&STUDY_ID={{%STUDY_ID%}}&SESSION_ID={{%SESSION_ID%}}.
• People who finish are sent to https://app.prolific.com/submissions/complete?cc= followed by your code.
• Exports include PROLIFIC_PID, STUDY_ID, and SESSION_ID columns.

Approve Clean requires a completed, non-abandoned response and the expected completion code. Missing completion details, missing codes, and partial responses go to manual review instead. Domandata checks eligibility again immediately before approving; submissions that no longer qualify are skipped. You can review uncertain cases directly in Prolific.

When participant safeguards are enabled, Domandata also checks the participant ID when saving a response and derives its duplicate-protection key itself. Test runs remain separate from paid fieldwork.
