Why Domandata

Our Case, In Our Words

Why Domandata Fits Dissertation Research

We make Domandata, so read this as our pitch, not a neutral ranking. Graduate students often run their most important survey study on a tight budget, sometimes after losing a university license, with a committee that will ask exactly how the data were produced. We built Domandata to make that study cheaper to run and easier to defend.

What we offer a dissertation study

Pay only while you're fielding

Draft and pilot on the free plan. When you launch, Standard is $10/mo and includes Flow, Deploy, and Export; cancel when data collection ends. Pro, at $30/mo, adds shared team workspaces if you collaborate.

Plans
Bring your Qualtrics surveys with you

Graduating or switching programs can end a Qualtrics license. Import your .qsf files and Domandata flags anything that needs review, such as custom JavaScript.

Switching from Qualtrics
Experiments your committee can audit

Assigned conditions are in every export, randomized display order is exported by default, and the Flow diagram shows every path, which answers the methods questions committees ask.

Audit randomization
Data ready for your analysis chapter

Native Stata, SPSS, and R files with value labels and a generated codebook, so you spend your time on analysis rather than recoding.

Export formats
Recruit from inside the survey

Launch Prolific and CloudResearch Connect studies from Domandata, with completion and screen-out redirects handled for you.

Integrations
A record for the methods appendix

Link your preregistration, lock the instrument you fielded, and export a replication package with instrument, codebook, and data.

When another tool is the better choice

We would rather lose a signup than have a study run on the wrong platform.

  • You have no budget for software at all.

Our free plan can't collect responses. SoSci Survey is free for non-commercial scholarly projects, and LimeSurvey is free if you can host it. Choosing free survey software

  • Your study involves health data or your lab standardizes on REDCap.

We don't sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements. Use REDCap or your institution's approved tool. Qualtrics vs REDCap

  • Your IRB requires EU hosting or a signed data-processing agreement.

We don't offer either today. Choose an EU-hosted or self-hosted tool. GDPR-compliant survey software

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this page an objective review?

No. It is our argument for our own product, written by the people who build it. For guides that compare tools and point to alternatives where they fit better, see the Research Guides, which cite each vendor's own documentation.

My university gives me Qualtrics for free. Why pay for Domandata?

Because the license is free but the workarounds are not. For a dissertation experiment, that can mean conjoints or complex randomization built with JavaScript, SPSS files you convert for Stata or R, and access that ends when you graduate. We think a monthly plan you cancel after fieldwork costs less than those hours. If your study is already in the field on Qualtrics, finish it there.

Can I cancel after my data collection ends?

Yes. Paid plans are billed through Stripe and you can cancel anytime. Export your data, codebook, and replication package before you cancel.

Will my IRB accept Domandata?

That is your IRB's decision. Our Trust Center has our security posture, CAIQ and HECVAT self-assessments, and subprocessor list to help with the review, and states clearly that we don't sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements.

Is there a student discount?

Students in a course whose instructor runs a Domandata Classroom get full features inside that classroom. For individual dissertation work, the published Standard plan is the lowest-cost option that collects responses.
